1/48th Scale Viet Nam Range

DZ makes a range of 57 packs of Viet Nam War figures, including 1st Air Cavalry, 101st Airborne, USMC, 11th Cavalry, Navy Seals, and NVA. A further 40 packs will include 9th Infantry, 5th Special Forces, NV militia, and Viet Cong. The two samples I’m looking at are both from pack SF-3, in the 5th Special Forces line, with jungle packs, lots of equipment (one has a grenade launcher, the other, an M-16), and boonie hats. They’re both 39M in the Barrett Measure, though due to their poses (one is stretched out prone, firing; the other is stretched out squatting, tossing a hand grenade), the height may be off a mm or so. Detailing is quite nice, though the sheer volume of baggage – packs, ammo pouches, canteens, flash-lights and tools, more ammo pouches, big knives, more canteens – is quite overwhelming.

The odd – for wargaming – scale was chosen, I presume, to take advantage of the various built-up AFVs on the market in 1/48th scale. One thing’s for certain – every extra millimeter of figure size was used to add detail… The figures come four to a pack, priced at $13.00. These figures should be available from your local game shop – check there first – but if they’re not, you can order them from the folks who supplied these samples, RLBPS, at 4827 Treeview Terrace, Rockford, IL 61109. Better yet, visit them at their website at http://www.rlbps.com! The website includes full price lists of all ranges stocked. These figures aren’t inexpensive, but they’re nice!
