28mm U.S. Infantry
BAR Gunners II

Review By Bill Rutherford

This blister contains eight figures, two kneeling, four advancing, and two standing firing, all in different poses. They are approximately 28M Barrett to the eyes; two are bare-headed and two have camo netting on their helmets so their actual notional heights vary just a bit. The figures fit into four pairs, each which shared a common lower half but the figures’ poses are different enough in each pair (e.g., one firing, one watching) that this doesn’t even rate as a quibble; the poses are conservative and convincing.

Equipment is well-done and includes ammo pouches, canteens, haversacks, etc. and yes, all of the figures are carrying BAR ammo pouches! The weapons are convincing - bulky and chunky and the rifle stocks are well-formed. As with Icon’s previous releases, these fellows’ helmets have a slight shape problem that’s more noticeable on the four helmets that have no webbing. The front rim is stretched out a a bit into a short bill and the “hump” of the helmet winds up too far back.

The helmets with netting make this less apparent. This is something the manufacturer should be able to put to rights (hint, hint!) without too much fuss. If you, the gamer, notice this, you can build up the fronts of the helmets with spots of putty and sand them down…

They will fit in well with the other 28mm WW II troops on the market and, come packed eight to a blister for $12.00, and should be available from your local game shop, or failing that, directly from the manufacturer at the Miniature Service Center, 1386 Portofino Drive, Yuba City, CA 95993.
