WW II US Infantry

review by Bill Rutherford

Five samples were received, all from pack WW2033, in a variety of poses. Figures are 33M in Barrett measure and are generally well detailed, with ammo pouches, canteens, webbing, etc., clearly and nicely detailed. The Thompson SMGs are well-cast but I’m not sure about the stocks; they seem a pinch short on the three figures where one could tell. Poses are well restrained - no dancing soldiers here. Three figures had the same lower half, and it was apparent, because the lower half was stepping off just slightly on the right foot for two different advancing figures and one throwing a grenade (this last was less convincing than the first two…) The kneeling firing figure is nicely scrunched down though I doubt the firer’s ability to fire more than one or two shots in the pose. The only other nit I’ll pick is that though two figures have decently netted helmets, all five helmets are undersized. On each, the front rim (where the strap normally seems to be put) is stretched out somewhat into a short bill and the “hump” of the helmet, as a result, is too far back. The un-netted helmets make this especially apparent. Fortunately, the helmets, as with the other components, appear to be mass-produced and not individually carved, so this is something the manufacturer will be able to put to rights without too much a fuss. If you, the gamer, notice this, you can build up the fronts of the helmets with spots of putty and sand them down… Bottom line? If you like playing with 28 - 32mm figures, these should fit in well. They look good overall if you can get past, or are willing to fix, the helmets. Part of a range of 40+ packs of Germans, Americans, and Soviets, and about a dozen personalities (wanna paint General Patton?), they come packed eight to a blister for $10.40 and should be available from your local game shop, or failing that, directly from the manufacturer at the Miniature Service Center, 1386 Portofino Drive, Yuba City, CA 95993.
