GHQ’s Micro Armour:

The Game WWII Rules

review by Bill Rutherford

I don’t normally do magazine reviews, but I have the first three volumes of this quarterly newsletter/magazine in front of me, ranging from 1995 to 1998, so here goes! Abanderado deals with military history and wargaming the Spanish Civil War and each issue runs about 18 pages in length. Production qualities are those of a newsletter - some copies are printed on both sides, some are single-sided, and the binding consists of a staple in a corner. Topics, as one might expect, are esoteric and wide-ranging, including magazine, book, and movie reviews, wargame and miniatures reviews, original historical articles (how ‘bout one on the Basque warfleet that appeared in vol 3 #4?), and even heads-ups for upcoming TV and film specials.

Abanderado is written and edited in an enthusiastic manner, articles are (to my limited ability to check the facts) seriously researched, and sober in presentation, and the whole is a veritable cornucopia of information and inspiration to learn more about the SCW… Having read several issues, I’m all ready to get into this era (though that may or may not be an endorsement in some folks’ eyes)… A four issue subscription costs $5.00 from the U.S. distributor, Pat Condray, at 2225 S. Gulfwater Pt., Crystal River, FL 34429. If you’re interested in the SCW, or even if you think you might be, Abanderado is recommended! Oh - check out their website at http://www.garrison-clubs.org/hpc.htm#Historical!
