In 1676 Virginia frontier colonist were outraged by the Colonial's governor's weak reaction to raids by neighboring Native Nations. These colonist banded together under the command of Bacon and launched raids against the Indians. After a successful campaign, they proceeded to march on Jamestown which they occupied and forced the government to authorize a second Indian campaign. The second campaign was also successful and culminated with the battle of Bloody Run. During the progress of the campaign, government factions organized and recaptured Jamestown in September of 1676. The Bacon forces were maneuvering for another battle with government forces when Bacon died of malaria which ended the resistance. More Strange American Conflicts
