Two US Navy submarines were in a collision off the New England coast on 19 March 1998 while on routine training exercises. The US Navy said there were no injuries and only minor damage was reported. The collision took place south of Long Island and the submarines were USS SAN JUAN and USS KENTUCKY Both returned to base under their own power. USS KENTUCKY, a 'boomer' returned to sea the next day and resumed her scheduled patrol. USS SAN JUAN remained in her homeport, Groton. Why are we reporting this incident now? This news traveled around the world before getting back here - it was in IN DEPTH, the newsletter of the AUSTRALIAN SUB VETS. Odd we have to get news of American subs from the other side of the globe. More Bulletin Board
