New Kingdom Egyptians had utilised the nomadic Libyans as mercenary forces, but they slowly assimilated into the society of the northern areas of the empire and eventually took control. War with their neighbours resulted in an erosion of power until their dissolution into small, regional states by the mid-eighth century BC. The Ethiopians conquered Egypt around 730, led by their king, Piankhi. The poor quality Egyptian spear and archer units hamper the army. There are large numbers of skirmisher foot, loose order unarmoured infantry, skirmisher cavalry and light chariots, but little else. It is easy to see why this power did not last long. Skirmish as much as possible and fight in as much delaying terrain as you can find. This is neither a beginner army…nor intermediate.
