Reviews by "Old Duffer"
Christopher Duffy for Emperor's Press This covers in the detail the campaigns of Suvarov and the Austrians in Italy and Switzerland in the year 1799. This unfortunately means that over half the text is concerned with the rather barmy campaign in Switzerland. The rest fortunately covers two big battles (Trebbia and Novi) and a heap of sieges and manoeuvres. Given the atypical nature of the Swiss campaign I found the book a bit thin on what I wanted. It is illustrated profusely with maps and has good OBs. Duffy believes that Suvarov would have beaten Napoleon had he been around in 1800. I have got to say on the evidence of this performance that I doubt it. More Old Duffer's Book Corner (book reviews)
