Dixon

15mm Samurai

review by Rod Burr

A range of 25mm Samurai was one of the first produced by Dixon. The company has nowadded a 15mm Samurai range to their offerings. These figures are for the periods covered by the WRG Book III middle and late periods and on into the Renaissance period. The range includes 8 Samurai on foot, 4 mounted, 8 Ashigaru on foot, and 5 monks. All of the Samurai and most of the other figures are cast with a hole in their back to allow addition of Sashimono (identification banners) which may be purchased separately. These holesshould beeasilyfilled for figures without banners.

Each pack contains only one pose. The poses range from static (Samurai standing with Yari) to moderately dynamic (Samurai wielding Katana, a figure holding his Katana in a two-handed baseball batter's pose). Mostof these should be mixable in a unit without looking too incongruous. Different figures are armed with Katana (Samurai sword), Naginata (pole arm), Yari (long spear), long bow, or arquebus. The bowarmed figures do not really capture the distinctive asymmetric longbow used by the Samurai. The figures are very nicely carved and cleanlycast. Thesefigures are available from Wargames, Inc., Box 278, Route 40 East, Triadelphia, WV 26059. Prices are $1.75 for packs of 5 mounted, $2.49 for 10 foot. For mounted figures the horses (H5) must be purchased separately in packs of 5.
