Battalions in Crisis
Modules I and II

These are two scenario and equipment packets for Battalions in Crisis!, by Phoenix Military Simulations. The former module contains statistics for 48 vehicles and guns not included in the basic game that were used during 1943-45. The latter module includes an additional 35 vehicles and guns used in 1944-45, as well as a points system for balancing scenarios. The modules also include rules clarifications and additions. The best part of the modules, however, lies in the variety of scenarios they provide. Modules I and LT include five scenarios each.

The scenarios span the second half of WW II and, to my mind, are how scenarios should be written. Each contains a paragraph explaining the overall situation, a briefing for each opponent that includes a situation description, player objectives, detailed orders of battle, and setup and reinforcement notes. Umpire notes and a game map conclude each scenario description.

Scenarios, I think, have long been the weak link in miniatures games. These two modules attempt to redress that, at least with regards to their parent game. Priced at $15 each, these modules aren't cheap, but if you play Battalions in Crisis!, you will want them both. They're available from your local game shop, or, if unavailable there, directly from the publishers at 12633 Carrington Hill Drive, Gaithersburg, MD 20878.- BILL RUTHERFORD
