Pass of the North

Bugles and Bandits

reviewed by Bob Marshall

When was the last time you heard about two figure reviewers arguing over the task of reviewing a line of figures? Well that is close to what occurred at the 1991 Cold Wars Convention when this exciting line of figures was presented for review to your Editor. Both Bob Beattie and I liked these figures so much that we both sought the sample figures for our own. Thanks Dick, for choosing me.

The Bugles and Bandits line of figures is made by Pass of the North, Inc. of Texas, and is carried by Pendragon miniatures. They represent troop typesof the Pershing Expedition into Mexico against the famous Pancho Villa. Granted this is notavery popularerato wargame, but it does have great potential for skirmish gaming. Even though you may not currently game this period, these figures will make you give it a second thought.

The initial release of this line is made up of nine figures and two different horses. These figures include 5 Mexicans and 4 Americans. More figures in the line are promised. The posing of all the figures included for review is outstanding. Detailing is sharp and nicely done, and you can feel the dust in your teeth just looking at the figures. Because of the dress and armament of the Mexican figures, they may easily be used in Western gunfight scenarios. The models themselves are approximately the same in stature as Mini-figs or RAFM figures. The horse figures currently available are in a galloping pose which is just perfect for those lightning raids over the border into a sleepy villa. These are very definitely figures you will want to inquire about next time you see Ed from Pendragon. Pendragon Miniatures, 1549 Marview Dr., Westlake, Ohio 44145.
