Eagle Miniatures

25mm ACW

reviewed by Paul Koch

It seems that the quality of miniatures figures is doing nothing but going up and up. A case in point is a recent sample of a good size 25mm I received from the British firm of EAGLE MINIATURES. I only received one figure but it was a beaut; an advancing Berdan's Sharpshooter. The tigure is in reality a tiny sculpture. There is almost no flash, perfect proportion and a very good grasp of historical correctness. There is little of the exaggerated undercuts and detailing that I personally treasure for painting but an incredible if finely drawn detail. For example even his rifle has an actual bore!

Good times are ahead for ACW gamers with new rules and releases of continuing quality figures. These British imports must be purchased from the old country and cost 40p or about $1.00 each if my exchange rate is accurate and one must add 10% for surface mail and 25% forair mail. They may be purchased from: J.D.W. Atkins BDS, Wild Acre, The Devil's Elbow, Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire, GL6 9AJ, Great Britain. Don't you just love British addresses?

The Civil War range is currently at the modest level of six figures; these being firing in kepi, firing in slouch, dismounted cavalry, a Zouave and Officer. The advancing figures and the Zouave come with choice of heads. incidentally, the firm has an extensive range of 7 YearsWarfigures as well. These are highly recommended but be prepared for the sometimes frustrating of dealing with international mail.
