Several battles occurred at or near the main ford crossing the Withlacoochee river into the heart of Seminole country. The same board layout can be used with the ford removed for the battle that happened above it. The river should split the board by running through sectors12, 0 and 6. Sector 0 should be cleared and the ford placed here if present. The other sectors are all wooded. Another gamers note : Due to the small caliber hunting ammunition common among the Seminoles, they often had to get a head or neck hit before the rounds would injure the soldiers. There are several reports of soldiers standing up after a skirmish and shaking the loose Seminole rounds out of their uniforms which had failed to penetrate their coats. As a result, I would include an Odd-Even saving roll for any Soldier which is hit by Seminole musket fire. 31 Dec 1835 FIRST BATTLE OF WITHLACOOCHEE A bitter battle between the Seminoles (250 + 30 Maroons) under Osceola, and Alligator vs six companies of US regulars (250) + Mounted Florida volunteers (500). The Seminoles defend a river crossing against the USA. 27-29 Feb 1836. SECOND BATTLE OF WITHLACOOCHEE Gen Gaines command (980 Louisiana and Florida volunteers + 1 6pdr gun) attempts to cross the Withlacoochee river by boat rather than using the well guarded ford crossing. The Seminoles (100+) under Osceola, Alligator and Jumper repulse the crossing. They later receive reinforcements and encircle the Americans. 1-9 Mar 1836 . The surrounded command of Gen Gaines is forced to build a protective log breastwork, called Ft Izard. The force is besieged for nine days with the Seminoles withdrawing after American reinforcements arrive. More Creek/Seminole Wars Scenarios for Selected Battles
