Scenarios for Selected Battles

Lake Okeechobee

Though a large number of combatants for a skirmish scenario, this scenario would also be good for small scale action using rules like "Fire and Discipline" or "Sword and Flame".

US Forces = Approximately 700 Col Z. Taylor commanding 150 1st US Inf Rgt + 150 4th US Inf Rgt + 150 6th US Inf Rgt + 220 Missouri Mounted Vol + 30 Delaware/Shawnee Scouts

Seminole Forces = 380-460 under Alligator (120), Arpeika (Sam Jones)(200), Coacoochee (Wildcat) (80), and Halleck Tustennuggee (60)

Board Description:

A Hammock setup but the Seminoles had cleared large fire zones around the camp. Also trees comprising the brush-log ticket wall were notched to steady fire. The attackers had to cross an open swampy area which was three feet deep in water, mud, and sawgrass to reach the camp. I recommend that the boardedge in sectors 1 , 3, 4 be considered swamp and cannot be crossed except by Seminoles who are escaping and cannot re-enter.

The entrance to the hammock camp should be at the midpoint of the board in sectors 12, 0 and 6. US Deployment = The Missouri Vol are dismounted mainly in sector 9 but can extend into 11 and 8 . The 6th Regiment is deployed offboard behind the Missouri troops with the 4th regiment behind them. The 1st Regiment is further back in reserve located by Col Taylor. The Friendly Indians are deployed in sector 8 and 6.

Objective:

The USA forces victory conditions should be based partially on not having to deploy the off-board reserve. The more committed, the easier it is for the Seminoles to get victory points.
