The Set: Savage & Soldier has produced a series of cut-out and assemble miniature building sets. There are two sets of Desert Villages, one in 25mm and the other in 15mm. The only differences between them are, of course, the size, butalso the number of card stock sheets in each pack. The 25mm set has 6 sheets as opposed to the 15mm set of 3 sheets. There are 10 buildings and 5 wall sections and 1 gate included in each set. Enough to make a fair-sized village. The card stocksheets have the 'unfolded' buiiding laid out on them, ready to cut out and assemble. Adoublesided instruction sheet is included with the set, and is quite precise. It does include tips on finishing and modifying the models. The Asembly: After opening the 15mm set, I selected the two most difficult assemblies to make. From uncut sheet to raw assembled model was about 20 minutes for the two pieces. For anyone who is not mechanically adept, assembly time could be much longer and more frustrating. Since no detail has been included on the models, this is left up to the customer. Detailing, I believe, will take most of the assembly time. Wood grain for the doors and surface detail for walls, must be added by the modeler. These could easily have been included by Savage & Soldier during printing, a simple 'wash' job would be ideal to add color, but keep the detail. And if not desired, the detail could be painted over. This lack of real detail, to my mind, would deter me from purchasing these sets. For the number of models you get, though, the $3.50 and $6.00 price tags are not too bad, with the higher price going for the 6 sheet 25mm building set. There is also a postage fee of $1.00 per set. Savage & Soldier is located at 23902 S.E. 42nd St., Issaquah, WA 90027. A catalogue is available. More Reviews
