Every once in a while a product, set of rules, a line of figures or something comes along that captures the imagination. It rather rekindles the fire of interest in a given period. For me this joyous task has been most recently performed by Jeff Leighton. Jeff has produced a wonderful video tape called "The Battle of Gettysburg in Miniature". This approximately one hour tape not only tells the grand and tragic story of the great battle but does so through the use of thousands of figures and beautifully crafted terrain. The result is a smashing visual treat. It is a sort of dream diorama. Long ago when I gave up the rectangular tiddley winks of board games, I did so for reasons of this tape. It is what I always wanted my war games to look like. I must confess in being flattered when I received a letter from Jeff kindly saying that the photos in "ON TO RICHMOND" were the inspiration for the tape in the first place. Every true miniaturist in the world should have this tape. Buy right now. It really is that good. It has set me off on a new Civil War painting jag that may yet bring about the recreation of Jeff's film on my table top. Here truly is glory undying albeit in miniature. Available from Gettysburg In Miniature, P.O. Box 105541, Dept. A, Raleigh, NC 27605-0541. $44.95 plus $1.50 shipping, in either VHS or BETA. More Reviews
