Hit the Dirt

WWII Scenarios for Crossfire

Reviewed by Dick Bryant

Written by Bill Rutherford, The Courier Modern Period Editor and John lewis this 43 page booklet has 21 scenarios from Europe. The period covered is from Barbarossa to VE Day and both the Eastern and Western fronts.. The scenarios is set up for 4 X 4 and 4 X 6 tables with anywhere from 2 to 6 people playing. The first thing you notice is the major amount of terrain that is contained on the tables. People who have been having trouble with Crossfire will see that probably most of their problems stem from not having enough terrain for troops to hide in. These scenarios will show you how to do it much better than the rulebook did. The maps are among the best I've seen in a wargame publication and the sceanrios are challenging and innovative. Several special rules have been introduced that make Crossfire even more interesting. Of aspecial interest is the "moving clock" a method that gives an uncertainty to the length of the game. I plan to apply this in many other periods I play.

Nothing teaches you how to design a scenario better than a book of scenarios written by experts. Hit the Dirt is at the top of that category and highly recommended to Crossfire players as well as others who game in WWII. Available from Wargames for $19.95. See their advt. elswhere in these pages for their address.
