GHQ WWII Micro Armour

1/285 Scale Tanks

Reviewed by Bill Rutherford

Just in are five new WW II Micro Armour releases. US73 M40 155mm SP Gun G140 E-100 Superheavy Tank, G138 SdKfz 233 and SdKfz 263, and G139 Radio Aerials. All are up to GHQ's high standard - crisp, abundant, detail, minimal flash and mold debris, and convincing appearance. The first, US73 M40 155mm SP Gun, is a US SPG, is the most complex, consists of six parts, the vehicle body, gun, gun shield, spade, and separate recoil cylinders, and comes 4 to a pack. It builds up easier than it sounds and the results are quite spectacular! The next, G137, is the SdKfz 232 8-rad German armored car, consists of two parts - hull and turret, and comes five to a pack. As usual, you get an extra turret to replace the inevitably lost one. G138 includes three of the SdKfz 233 8-rad armored car with a short 75mm gun (two piece casting, gun and hull) and two of the turretless SdKfz 263 command car (one piece casting). G140 includes three of the E-100 superheavy tank - sort of a little brother to the Maus, in two piece (turret and hull) models.

The last pack, G139, is a treat - two etched brass frets of bed-spring radio aerials for either the SdKfz 232 or the SdKfz 263. The brass is cleanly etched, cuts and bends easily, and assembled onto the models (see photos) much more quickly than I anticipated. If you game in 1/285 - 1/300 scale, you can't do better than these. They are available for $7.95 per pack from your local game shop, or if (unlikely) they don't carry GHQ, directly from the maker at 28100 Woodside Road, Shorewood, MN 55331.
