A recent discussion on the Conflict Simulations BBS (CONSIM-L) centered on the need to microwave dice to ensure that they give accurate results. Pundits claim that the dice must be microwaved each day, before use, to kill dice lice that live in the little holes. If the lice are not killed, they'll breed like, well, lice and throw off the weight on one side of the die. Of course, once the lice are dead, the die must be washed (preferably in a dishwasher) to remove the bodies (dead bugs throw off the die as much as live ones). Our fearless editor, Jon Compton, conducted experiments on the proper time needed to microwave dice. He has found that five seconds is too short and 22 minutes is too long. Although he has not arrived at the correct time as yet, the experiments were halted after the 22-minute test created a mass of melted die goop and dead lice at the bottom of his microwave.
