Command magazine has finished its stock sale and attained 80% of its intended goal. The money generated from the stock sales and the revenues generated from advertising have led to a new format. The first issue of the new Command, with full advertising, is on the street; it is an impressive offering of military history articles with a good dose of advertising for related products interspaced between the "Short Rounds column and the back cover. The new format places them firmly in competition with the magazines of the Cowles History Group (including Military History, WWII Vietnam, and others). It also places the magazine in the main stream of magazine publishing. With both magazines seeking many of the same advertisers and a similar market niche, it is obvious that Command and Cowles will be soon be competing for many of the same readers. Cowles offers a large variety of specialized magazines; Command will offer different types of articles in a single issue. The competition can only benefit the subscribers of military history magazines. Despite the inroads that each will make in the other's market, both will undoubtedly survive. More Industry News
