These units were formed during the 1790's in an attempt to cope with its large number of French Light Infantry then being encountered. There were a maximum of twelve Battalions but the number was reduced after 1809 and by the end of the wars most that remained had been converted to Jager Regiments. TUNIC AND TROUSERS: Dark Gray or Medium Gray with Battalion colors on collars, cuffs, turnbacks and shoulder boards. FOOTWEAR: As with Austrian Line Battalions of the appropriate period. EQUIPMENT: All belts, scabbards, cartridge cases, canteen covers, and straps, and Black in color. BATTALION COLORS: Red, or Green, or Dark Blue or, Medium Blue or other unknown colors but probably Dark Green, Maroon, Black, etc. More Austrian Army and Navy 1792-1815
