Right: Drummer, Fusilier-Chasseurs, 1809 At its formation in 1806 the Regiment of Fusiliers consisted of two battalions each of which had four companies. Total regimental strength was 1,200 plus NCOs and drummers. With the creation of a second regiment the first regiment, which had been attached to the Chasseurs a Pied, became the Fusilier-Chasseurs and the second regiment became the Fusilier-Grenadiers. On 5 January 1811 a fifth company, called Fusilier-Sergeants, was added to each battalion, and on 26 December 1813 each battalion was allocated a sixth company. The Fusilier-Sergeants were combined to form an elite battalion, four companies strong. Imperial Guard Infantry
