Companies des Veterans

Created 12 July 1801. The veteran companies each consisted of one capitaine, two lieutenants, two sous-lieutenants, one sergeantmajor, four sergeants, one fourrier, eight brigadier-soldats, two tambours; and 140 veterans.

Velites

  • Velite Grenadiers and Velite Chasseurs; created 29 July 1804.
  • Velites de Turin and Florence created April 1809.

    Until 1805 each Velite regiment contained only one battalion of five companies. Each company consisted of one capitaine, one lieutenant en premier, one lieutenant en seconde, one sergeant major, one fourrier, one sergeant, eight brigadier-soldats, two tambours and 172 Velites.

    After 1805 each regiment had two battalions. The Italian velites comprised, one chef de battalion, one capitaine-adjutantmajor, a capitaine-fourrier, one chirugien-major, one lieutenantsous-adjutantmajor, a vaguemestre, a corporal-tambour, and three craftsmen, forming the headquarters staff. Each battalion contained four companies of one capitaine, one lieutenant, one sous-lieutenant, one sergeant-major, five sergeants, one brigadierfourrier, nine brigadiersoldats, one tambour and 105 Velites.
