George A. Johnson of GAJO is a venerable name in the business of pre-painted / pre-owned armies. He graciously sent me samples of a 15mm Confederate and Union force which can be bought pre-painted and pre-based through his service.
The figures were a mix of Battle Honors, Musket Miniatures, and Stone Mountain Miniatures. All of the figures were based on flocked metal stands 1" x 7/8" which is compatible with most of the popular rule sets on the market. My opinion of the samples is that the painting quality ranges from good to very. Highlights were the Union artillery, the Zouaves, and the Confederate officer with map/dispatches. A Union or Confederate Starter Set has 72 infantry in 4 eighteen man units, 4 gunners, 2 cannons, 1 mounted officer. The price is $125.00. Specialty units ("Iron Brigade", Zouaves, etc), mounted officers, cavalry and artillery packages are also available. I believe anyone wishing to get themselves up and running in short order would do themselves a great favour with GAJO's products.
