Gobirawa. Major pagan ruling group in Hausaland when the Sokoto was formed.

Kebbi. Anti-Sokoto and anti-Gobir. The fought independent battles with the Sokoto.

Gummi. One of the few allies of the Gobir led resistance to Sokoto.

Zamfara: The town that dominated Hausaland until replaced by the Gobirawa. They revolted frequently against rule by both the Gobirawa and the Sokoto
