Bello: The son and heir of Shaikh to the Sokoto Empire. Shaikh: A scholar who founded the Sokoto Empire. He was already fifty years old when the jihad started. Though he was appointed commander of the armies, he conducted much of the administrative work and never led a raid or a campaign. Yunfa: The sultan of Gobir, who was staunchly anti-Shaikh.
