Large Units in PK

PK House Rules

by Eric Burgess

Fire Values

Since the intent of the rules seemed to be to treat battalion firepower as relatively static around the 600-800 man mark, and even the large Austrian battalions were not particularly noted historically for their superior firepower, we decided to give 5 or 6 stand battalions a +1 on the die roll rather than an Up1 on the fire tables. This is a lesser benefit than an Upi, just as long as you remember not to adjust the maximum roll of the die! (by this I mean a 10 is still the max on a d10 even with a +1, etc.)

MORALE VALUES

NOTES: This is the hardest part to model in my opinion. Right now in the rules units suffer penalties to their morale when they have lost 25%, 50%, and 75% losses based on a four stand unit. You could either use percentages to determine the modifiers which would be the easiest. (i.e. Six stand unit has lost two stands. It rolls for morale at down one since it has lost more than 25%, but less than 50%. If it losses another stand then the unit would be at 5o% original strength so they would now check at two stands down.)

MELEE VALUES

This is already handled in the rules.

MANUEVER and DEPLOYMENT

Any unit with 6 or more stands requires 2 pips to act on a Maneuver or Deployment card. This IMO reflects the more cumbersome nature of the large units and also acts as a counterbalance to the added benefits.
