Crete: the Battle and the Resistance

Book Review

by Old Duffer

Antony Beevor for Penquin

This is a very good account of the battle for Crete. It clearly shows the airborne troops were defeated had Freyberg but lifted his eyes from the sea. The account of the resistance is effective if rather irritating - those madcap japes seem rather irresponsible now.
