Michael Grant for Routledge The Roman Empire in the Third Century AD tipped into anarchy and then re-emerged in an authoritarian state under Diocletian. How did it achieve this turn-around? Well you will not find out from reading this thin book (in every sense). I am not sure why Grant put it together or whether he was well when he did it. It essentially consists of bits from other books strung together with a few comments and the ultimate admission that no one knows why. Save your money and do not buy this.
