Optional Rules
by Bradley Skeen
1. Special Replacements. Italian, Hungarian, Rumanian, and Eastern Troops units generate no special replacements. Eliminated German strength points generate special replacements at ratio of 1/3 of total losses. Eliminated Soviet Units generate Special Replacements at a ratio of 1/4 of total losses. When a German Panzer Division or Soviet Mechanized or Tank Corps is reduced to cadre or eliminated, 1 point of the generated special replacements is an arm RP (this does apply to the loss of a unit already at cadre strength). When a Soviet Artillery Division is reduced to cadre or eliminated, 1 point of the special replacements generated is an art RP. Example: A 15-10 Panzer Division reduced to cadre and forced to retreat through enemy ZOC, resulting in its total elimination, would generate 4 Inf RPs and 1 Aem RP. Whenever a Soviet Tank XXXX HQ is eliminated, the Axis Player receives 1 Arm RP. Whenever 2 or 3 German c/m XXs are eliminated or reduced to cadre in the same attack, the Soviet Player receives 1 Arm RP (This represents the salvaging of captured enemy tanks and trucks, a widespread practice; for example, at the time of Kursk a battalion of Das Reich was entirely equipped with T-34s). 2. ZOCs. When retreating, German, Soviet and Axis Allied c/m units may ignore the presence of enemy ZOCs exerted by non-c/m units if they retreat into a hex occupied by a friendly unit, or if the ZOC is being exerted by only a single stack of units. 3. Soviet Artillery Divisions. Replace Soviet 9-6 artillery divisions with 59-8 artillery divisions. The attack strength of Artillery divisions are doubled in any combat phase following a movement phase in which they did not move. Refer to the defense strength of Artillery divisions for all exchange and replacement purposes. Artillery Divisions with a movement allowance of 8 (note that artillery cadres have a movement allowance of 6) may move one hex during the exploitation phase if they are in supply, not subject to interdiction, and accompanied by other units at least equal to themselves in RE size, and are not in and do not enter enemy ZOC. Artillery divisions and cadres may never participate in overruns. 4. Optional CRT. (see Player Aid Card). Explanation of changed or additional combat results: More Lost Victories: Stalingrad Counteroffensive
