While Ricard and LaGrange attacked the Russians frontally, the Guard cavalry outflanked the Russians. The French infantry followed the Russians as they retreated to Champaubert. French infantry also outflanked the Russian left and cut their line of retreat to Etoges. Olssufiev gambled on a path through the Grand Laye Wood to reach the road to Etoges and Blucher, but was trapped there and captured with most of his men. More Champaubert Part II
