Keeping the advertising to a minimum because of being forced into a smaller venue this season did not stop HMMC#5 from being overflowed by Historical Gamers who heard of it from word of mouth. Of course those who have enjoyed HMGS sponsored conventions in the past tell their friends and there is no way to keep it small. Over 60 Historical Miniature events (not counting the several Ancient tournaments or all the open gaming) kept the attendees at it from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. every day but Sunday. I noted a lot of WWII and modern land, air and sea battles, several being Command Decision games, the new WWII/modern rules by Chadwick. Again the terrain displayed in most of the demonstrations was superb; even the ancients tourneys had good terrain. Rick Hasenhauer again presented his ever-popular Alamo game and (for the 3rd time) won the best terrain presentation award from The Courier for his Shiloh game. We are going to have to set up a Masters Award category for Rick in the terrain department. Many people had Geo-Hex terrain which certainly improves all the games. The Historicon show in July should, based on this turnout, have well over 2000 gamers. The winners of various prizes are as follows: PAINTING COMPETITION 25mm ARMY 1st. John Keith Warren 100 Years War
THE COURIER AWARDS Best Painted Unit John Keith Warren Billmen
ANCIENT TOURNEY WINNERS 25mm Society Heat 1st. Richard Rowe Bactrian Greek
Prizes for the Ancient competition were donated by The Courier, Ral Partha, Snuggles & Bear, Thistle & Rose, MiniFigs, and Wargames. I should point out here that most of the games played had prizes given out that were donated by the manufacturers present. More Courier Dispatch: News
