Todd was born in Oak Park, IL, in 1955, and (sometime later) attended Westminster College in Fulton, MO, where he received a B.A. in history. He took post graduate work at Northwestern University and Kendall College in Evanston, IL and is currently a Principal at Republic Securities, Inc. in Chicago.

Todd has been gaming since around 1962. Starting out with the plastic flats available from the backs of comic books, he soon graduated to Airfix. Todd was modeling terrain throughout the late 60's and inventing rules sets, Todd discovered the hobby was bigger than just he and his brother in 1970 when he was introduced to Jutland and Gettysburg. He joined Mayfair Gaming Club in 1972 and helped start Mayfair Games in 1978. The club left the company "en masse" when it took a turn away from Historical games. Todd has eclectic tastes in miniatures and has collected approximately 20,000 figures in various periods. Todd started and has run "LittleWars" since its inception in 1984 and helped found HMGS Midwest. He is a member of that body's Board of Directors,

Todd's interest in the Medieval period covers most aspects of Medieval life, not just the military aspects. He has an extensive library and a 300 album collection of Medieval and Renaissance music. Todd has spent several months touring English, French, German, Spanish and Italian Medieval sights including some thirty-two battlefields. He was a member of the S.C.A. but left when he felt the local chapters were becoming too interested in science fiction and fantasy. The S.C.A. did provide the opportunity to wear full armor and engage in mock combat and gave Todd the chance to use a lance on horseback and hunt from horseback, "No small trick."

Todd has been active in the North American Society of Ancient and Medieval Gamers and has participated in the national finals forthe last two years. He is currently finishing up a set of rules for the Middle Ages which should be published in 1987.
