Pax Britanica

20mm Napoleonic and ACW

Reviewed by Paul Koch

In this review I will deal with the PAX BRITANICA figures dealing with the Napoleonic wars and our own War Between the States. The forgotten range of figures is 20mm. They are usually considered as the plastic range of Airfix, Atlantic, etc. or maybe just for World War II because they go so nicely with HO mini tanks. Actually the scale is much older than that. K & L have been making 20mm HO American Civil War figures for more than a decade. It is a fine scale being large enough to paint without the proportion problems so prevalent in 15s. PAX BRITANICA has given us this new range of Civil War figures with a natural anatomy, delicate in detail and comprehensive in scope. Steve Hezzlewood, the boss of PAX BRITANICA is very responsive to the customer as well. While the Napoleonic line features only French and British as yet, it is growing rapidly.

The figures are very natural and well crafted but I prefer a heavier detailing for ease of painting. I find the scale just a hair fine for my Stone Mountain and Airfix hordes, but it fits perfectly with K & L's ACW range. Highly recommended.

PAX BRITANICA are available only from Britain: PAX BRITANICA, 81 Manchester Road, Burnley, Lanc., England.

They retail at 15p per foot and rider; 25p per horse and 35% for air mail postage to us here in the colonies. The resulting cost is around 25 to 30 cents a figure making them a bargain as well.
