Produced by Lyzard's Grin, P.O. Box 14522, Oklahoma City, OK 73113. One of the forgotten portions of the late unpleasantness between the states as far as miniatures gamers is concerned is the fact that a great deal of the war was fought on the rivers of America. Both U.S. Grant's and John Pope's early reputations were based on combined land and water operations that they conducted. Thanks to Lyzard's Grin of Oklahoma these naval actions may be more easily portrayed on the table top. Until these released only one source of these warships existed and their quality was very poor. The quality of "Iron Ships" is not that of the highest order but is certainly an improvement over what was available and falls within the range of acceptability. They are mounted on terrained or "sea scaped" bases which make for good blending into model rivers. The price of the ships is reasonable and should help promote a very important if overlooked part of Civil War gaming. The range is quite complete containing not only Union Monitors and Reb Ironclads, but a fine variety of gunboats as well. With the reservations of casting quality mentioned they are recommended.
