The Courier has received for review a variety of solid-cast buildings and fortifications from a new company in Texas called Vac-U-Cast. The items are 1/76th scale and both the initial offerings and coming attractions are designed primarily for WWII. All of the items are made of a solid plastic-like material and the detail is generally very good. The pieces paint up well and the material appears durable. Among the items available are an Atlantic Wall Bunker in both an undamaged (13101) and damaged (13103) version. Both have raised, removable roofs and sandbagged entrance ways and the damaged version is nicely pockmarked. Both retail for $7.95. There is a pillbox set (2) which also comes in undamaged (13102) and damaged (13104) for $7.95. Again, there are sandbagged entrances and the damaged one has bullet and shell holes. Likewise, they come with removable roofs, and although interior space is limited, they did hold two kneeling 20mm WWII figures which I happened to have on hand. The final two items were Dragon's Teeth (13106) which consisted of 12 pieces for $3.95, and Tree Stumps (B107) which contained 10 pieces for #3.95. The Dragon's Teeth are individually molded and nicely detailed on a small base. Some have dirt mounds and others are on a flat surface. The tree stumps are probably the least detailed and appeared to suffer from poor molding as there were a lot of holes and gaps. However, with some filler and paint they would not look too bad. All in all, the fortifications would fit nicely in any WWII or Korean scenario. Vac-U-Cast is a welcome addition to the wargame accessory field and their line of products are recommended. One suggestion, however, would be to offer a damaged and undamaged pillbox in a set to give you more flexibility in your scenarios. These items are available from Vac-UCast, P.O.Box 1081, Copperas Cove, Texas 76522. Phone number (817) 554-7095. Also listed in their price list are a variety of 1/76 scale armored vehicles which are due out shortly and hopefully will be reviewed in this column sometime soon. More Reviews
