25mm Renaissance Range

Redoubt has recently come out with a very wide range of 25mm 16th Century figures consisting of 90 infantry, 6 stradiots, 10 armored men-at-arms, 2 storming parties, and artillery. The figures are 25L(BM)

Four figures were submitted for review: R29 unarmored arqubusier; R20 unarmored crossbowmen morion; R64, armored pikeman charging; and R506 stradiot. R20 and R29 resemble the old style Hinchliffes, being somewhat awkwardly posed and proportioned, with detail not very well defined. The crossbowmen's morion is unimpressive, and unfortunately was the only helmeted figure submitted, so it is difficult to judge how such armor is handled. Much better is R64, a nice pikeman with leveled pike, with well rendered breast and backplate, fittings, and tassets. This figure shows good animation and proportion. The stradiot also shows good detail and considerable character. His kaftan has good, deep detail on the quilting which will aid painting. However he does have a very rigid pose, and the right arm, brandishing his sword overhead has no elbow. Clearly it is difficult to generalize such an extensive line from 4 quite different figures; judging by the line illustrations in the catalog there are a number of very interesting figures ideal for the Italian Wars, French Wars of Religion, Dutch Revolt, etc. These figures will perform admirably as Venetian marines, Elizabethan billmen, Gascon or Spanish crossbowmen, Flemish or Florentine pikemen, as well as being adequate for the Swiss and Germans as well.
