BACKGROUND

He likes to be called "Heller" and nothing else, but will admit that his first name begins with a "D." A small, wiry lad, he was always spry and mischievous. He fell in early with a gang of other boys, roughhousing with them, and soon brought along his two brothers. The gang of boys became bolder and bolder, thinking it was a thrill to vandalize homes and shops, and then run away.

Spotted by Alavar, who saw potential in him, he was invited to come and learn how to fight with style. Weapons intrigued Heller, so the boy agreed.

He had found a new interest now, and was determined to become a fighter, and eventually an adventurer. Though forbidden to do so by his parents, he continued to join Alavar and his trainees in their sessions. When his father and older brother were drafted into the army of the local lord, Heller abandoned his family, leaving his mother with his younger brother and sister, to seek his own life. He was delighted when Alavar declared him good enough to join the party of adventurers that the older fighter was forming.

Heller loves to tease and torment, but he has learned to restrain himself somewhat, for as Alavar told him, it isn't good to make enemies of your fellow adventurers, especially when your life may depend on them. So he restricts himself to verbal teasing, especially of the female members of the party, who tolerate him for the same reason.
