Psionic Powers:
BACKGROUND When Dalena was three years old, she was afflicted with a mysterious illness. No one could determine what had caused it nor what might cure it. Dalena became so ill that her face became badly disfigured, but it was also when she discovered that she had "special powers." She was able to heal herself so completely that it seemed to her as if she was never ill! This frightened her parents so badly that they abandoned her in the forest, thinking she was possessed of some demon. But even at that early age, Dalena had an affinity with animals, and none of the woodland creatures harmed her. In fact, a large, red fox came upon her and sensing something unusual in this "two legs," became her friend and guardian. She later named him Flame. Some months later, while the young Dalena was looking for edible berries (even then she knew which were safe to eat), an elderly woman came upon the two and offered them a home. The woman's name was Astra, and she taught Dalena about magic, so that the young girl became very adept in the arcane as she grew older. In time she gained another animal friend, a gray wolf she named "Old One." Astra taught Dalena about healing, herbalism, plant lore, weather, and the ways of animals, as well as magi. She also taught her more about her "special powers" which Astra called "psionics." Astra died when Dalena was 13, and the young wizardess missed her greatly. But she had Flame and the Old One as companions, and eventually sought out civilization, coming to Crimsonvale. It was a great challenge to become one of humankind again after so long, but it was made easier once it was found that Dalena was a caring, friendly person, and devoted herself to healing the ill and infirm. She is very happy being in Crimsonvale.
