Eagles Of The Gulf
Part II (Subpart A)

Introduction

Those of you who have been following the sad saga of the "Eagles of the Gulf' (EOG) Air Strike module, already know most of this. However, for the rest of you I'll quickly recap. The EOG module in its entirety was supposed to have been produced by GDW shortly after the publication of Desert Falcons. In fact, Desert Falcons and Eagles of the Gulf were originally slated to be a single, boxed module with counters and maps a la Air Strike.

However, cost cutting and poor management decisions saw to it that the air-to-air and air-to-ground portions were separated and redesigned to be released as two separate magazine expansions with no maps and no counters.

Desert Falcons made it out, but was sloppily produced with numerous typos and errors (effata available through Air Power). Eagles of the Gulf didn't and it was dropped by GDW based on the slow sales of Desert Falcons. 3W and Battleplan magazine came to the rescue, offering to print EOG in two parts, albeit without color maps or counters. EOG, part 1, thus appeared in Battleplan #9, and included two of the four maps (K and L) and eight aircraft data cards, plus 14 scenarios and some supporting material. The aircraft were, IL-28 Beagle, MiG-21PFMA, TU-16 Badger, SU-7 Fitter, CM-170 Magister, IAI Nesher, Sud Vatour, and BAC-167 Strikemaster. Unfortunately, the followon issue never appeared and Battleplan ceased being produced well over a year ago, its parent company, 3W, currently in financial straits. So, until now, the rest of EOG has been languishing on my computer disks.

Over the next few issues of Air Power, we will reproduce the missing portions of EOG. The remaining two maps and data cards, plus scenarios will be featured as space permits. The EOG, part 11 aircraft are the F-5E Tiger-II, A-4N Skyhawk, KFIR-C7, F4-2000, MiG-23BN, SU-17/22 Fitter D/F, Super Entandard, and IAI Lavi. The F-5E and F4-2000 appeared already in AP issues #4 and #9 respectively.

This issue features Map-N and the A-4N and KFIR-C7 data cards, plus EOG scenarios 15 through 20.
