Uniform

Both the full-dress coat and the undress surtout were as for the Grenadiers a Cheval, the only difference being that green replaced blue as the basic colour. Aurore contre-epaulettes and aiguilette were also worn and the waistcoat was white. Similarly, breeches were white hide for full-dress and, generally, grey linen for campaign, worn with cuffed riding boots with blackened iron spurs.

Officers had gilded buttons; gold aiguilette, epaulettes of rank and turnback grenades. The trumpeter's coat was white with sky blue facings, including turnbacks. Collar, cuffs and lapels were trimmed with gold lace and the lapels were further decorated by gold tasselled lace loops. Contre-epaulettes and aiguilette were mixed sky blue/gold; these were also worn on the surtout, which was sky blue with scarlet collar, round cuffs and turnbacks, with gold lace to collar and cuffs.

Headdress

A brass helmet of classical style was worn, the shape becoming pronounced from 1810 and a small rear peak being added in 1814. An imitation pantherskin turban enclosed the cap and peak, and a black horsehair mane (white for trumpeters) fell from the fluted comb. The mane, which also formed a tuft at the front of the comb, gradually emerged from a point further and further to the rear. The chinscales and bosses were also brass and the fulldress plume was red except for field and staff officers (white) and trumpeters (sky blue). Forage caps were of the coat colour with trim and grenade badge in the colour of the epaulettes.

Equipment

Equipment was as for the Grenadiers ~ cheval, and the sabre, pistols and modified 1777-model dragoon musket were carried. On dismounted duty the swordbelt was worn over the right shoulder, and this had a crowned eagle on the buckle. Trumpets were brass with mixed sky blue/gold cords.

The cloak was of the usual white and blue mixture with red lining and had a green collar for the dragoons. It was green with gold lace trim for officers and sky blue for trumpeters. The greatcoat which superseded this was of the same colour, with green edging for the troopers and aurore lace loops as for the Grenadiers a Cheval.

Horse furniture was similar to that of the Grenadiers a Cheval, but with green replacing blue and triple holster-covers. That of the trumpeter was sky blue with gold trim. Horses were chestnuts where possible, and the excellent horses of the Prussian Gendarmes (10th Cuirassiers) were turned over to the regiment at the end of 1806; trumpeters rode greys.
