Uniform

The coat was cut as for the Grenadiers a Cheval. It was blue with scarlet lapels and turnbacks, scarlet cuffs with blue patches, white metal buttons, and white trefoil epaulettes and (on the left shoulder) aiguillettes. The horizontal pockets had scarlet piping, the turnbacks bore white grenade badges. Gauntlets and undergarments were buff yellow, as was the belting, which had a white edging.

Headdress

Black fur caps were worn, without a plate but with black leather peaks bound with brass and brass chinscales; a white grenade upon the scarlet rear patch; white parade plumes (scarlet otherwise) and white cords.

Equipment

The pouch bore a brass eagle, as did the belt buckle. Rank distinctions were silver. Sabres were as for the Grenadiers a Cheval, as was the horse furniture which had a white double lace edging and crowns in the rear corners, triple holster caps and rectangular valise.

The old Legion trumpeters had sky blue coats and surtouts with crimson distinctions. These were replaced by scarlet coats with silverlaced collar, cuffs, lapels and turnbacks of blue. The lapels had silver buttonhole lace. Shoulder decoration was mixed silver/red; the grenades on the turnbacks and cap patch were silver, as were the buttons. The plume was scarlet with a white tip; the fur cap was white for parade dress. Shabraques were as for the men with silver trim.
