In 1808 the 1st squadron of the Chevau-Legers de Berg was admitted into the Imperial Guard. The squadron had two companies and was organised along French lines. At the beginning of January 1809, the Chevau-legers were disbanded, with many of the men transferring to the Chasseurs a Cheval du Grand-Duc de Berg. Towards the end of 1809, the Chasseurs were issued with lances and they were re-named the Chevau-legers de Berg, and, on 17 December, they were admitted to the Guard. A second regiment was raised in March 1812. In October 1813 the corps left French service and was incorporated into the Prussian Army.
