The army remains encamped at Swigan. Yesterday, Colonel Guasco made a reconnaissance of the Prussian Army. He reports that it does not 20 to 25,000 men. It is camped behind a little river called the Polzen; the Right Wing, composed of all the cavalry, rests on a height called the Kalberg in front of the village of Unter-Liebeck; its Left is at Pisnick, with a height called the Orcherberg in front. The town of Leipa lies in front of this position; the height of Spitzberg is behind it. The ground is covered with woods so that the situation of the camp is very advantageous; approaching it would be extremely difficult. On the news from the Quartermaster-General, General Guasco – who had been out seeking for a new camp, the army received the order to march tomorrow, leaving its heavy baggage at Münchengrätz. The Advanced Guard, commanded by the Duke of Arenberg, immediately marched off to cover the new camp. General Nádasdy, with the main body of his Corps, remains at Wegstädtl. From there he has pushed detachments as far as Ausche. Tomorrow he will go to Gastorff. Deserters assure us that the Prince of Prussia has sent off to the rear around 2,000 wagons of baggage and provisions, of which one part has gone to Silesia; the informants had been part of the escort. The equipages of the Reigning-Duke of Württemberg have set off for his estates; we do not think that he will be rejoining the army. In order to oppose the Prussian jägers, Her Majesty the Empress has ordered the raising of a Corps of Jägers of 400 men. All the nobility subscribe willingly to this plan, allowing their own personal gamekeepers to serve, and pledging to maintain their employment whilst they are on campaign. The Queen will give them 10 kreutzers a day. This corps is to be commanded by a major with two captains and 4 subaltern officers. More Journal of Horace St. Paul 1757
