The Battle of Corunna Anniversary, 12-19 January By the time you read this the anniversary event will have taken place, but this is just one of a number of re-enactments taking place in Spain this year, to commemorate the Peninsula War. The Corunna Society of Great Britain is very heavily involved in the presentation of these events. The programme for the remainder of the year is: Mostoles, Madrid, Spain 1st - 2nd May: This is to commemorate the revolt against the French in 1808, and will be staged in the first town that rose against the occupation. There will be a small battle re-enactment plus parades. Corunna, Galicia, North Spain 26-28th July: The city of Corunna is hosting the Tall Ships Race and this event will co-incide. A major re-enactment and civic commemoration of the battle of 1809 with an historic camp on the coast. There will be battles, parades and wreath-laying ceremonies. Cacabelos, Leon, Spain 22 September: A battle and commemoration of the action during the retreat to Corunna including the shooting of General Colbert by Rifleman Tom Plunkett.
