Spellmount has some interesting titles for the coming year. In the Spring will be published Recollections of the Storming of the Castle of Badajoz: By the Third Division under the command of Lieut.Gen Sir Thomas Picton GCB, on the 6th April 1812, by Captain MacCarthy. This is a facsimile of the Second Edition published in 1836, of the personal narrative by Captain MacCarthy, late of the 50th Regiment, who was assistant engineer in the 3rd Division. He also includes memoirs of the storming of Fort Napoleon, Almaraz and the battle of Corunna. The book will be priced at £19.95 hardback. The summer will see the publication of ‘A Desperate Business’: Wellington, The British Army and the Waterloo Campaign by Ian Fletcher, priced at £29.95 hardback. It will differ from the majority of books on Waterloo as it begins with the break-up of Wellington’s army at the end of the Peninsular war, continues with the battles of Quatre Bras and Waterloo and then examines the fighting that followed, as Wellington’s army pushed on to Paris. The autumn sees Military Memoirs of Four Brothers: Engaged in the Service of their Country as well as in the New World and Africa, as on the Continent of Europe, by The Survivor. This is a facsimile of the first edition, published in 1829 of the memoirs of the four Fernyhough brothers, who were natives of Staffordshire. Priced at £24.95 hardback. More Napoleonic Newsdesk
