By Paul Chamberlain
This is a seminar taking place on 10th and 11th March at Portchester, and run by Ian Fletcher Battlefields Tours. The weekend will examine the lives of French prisoners of war brought to Britain during the Napoleonic Wars. The series of lectures will examine the system that brought them here, their living conditions, their day-t-day lives and their attempts to escape, alongside all other aspects of POW life. Fronting the seminar is Napoleonic POW expert Paul Chamberlain, who will also present a guided tour of Portchester castle, the home for many a French prisoner during the period. Full details may be obtained from Ian Fletcher Battlefield Tours, PO Box 112, Rochester, Kent, ME1 2EX. Tel: 01634 319973; Email: enquiries@ifbt.co.uk; or visit the website www.ifbt.co.uk. Ian has a wide range of battlefield tours planned for next year, and his new brochure may be obtained from this address. More Napoleonic Newsdesk
