The Association of Friends
of the Waterloo Committee

Napoleonic Newsdesk

The Waterloo Committee was founded by His Grace the Duke of Wellington in 1973, with both a UK and a Belgian branch. The objectives of the Committee are:

To promote public education about and appreciation of the Battle of Waterloo.

To preserve and restore the site of the battle.

To encourage research on all matters pertaining to the campaign.

To ensure a more accurate historical representation at Waterloo of the events of the 15 June 1815 and thereafter.

The Association of Friends assists the Committee to pursue these aims, preserve the battlefield and conduct historical research. Membership of the Association of Friends is open to all and gives entitlement to free entry to Stratfield Saye House, the Wellington Museum at Waterloo, and the Waterloo Museum in Broadstairs, Kent. Each year there is a programme of visits, meetings and talks, and members receive The Waterloo Journal three times a year. This is a very good A4 size journal. The December 1994 edition contained articles entitled Wellington’s Dublin; On the Road to Glory: Stendhal and Napoleon; and Restoring the Balance: France in the Wake of Waterloo.

There is also news of forthcoming events, book reviews and member’s letters.

For full details contact the Honorary Secretary, 2 Coburn Drive, Four Oaks, Sutton Coldfield, B75 5NT.
