Spearhead WW2 mini-campaign, part 1 of 3
Liberation of Bruyeres
AARs
Vosges Mountains, France, 16th October 1944
Prior to their winter offensive, the German High Command
determined to hold the line in the valley of the Vosges
Mountains until the attack from the Ardennes could be
launched. Since its landing in southern France, the US 36th
Infantry Division was overextended, understrengtb and
exhausted, having already battled its way through tbe
Germans’ 198tb and 338tb Infantry as well as l0th Panzer.
Nevertheless, it was ordered forward to Bruyeres to link up
with tbe US 45th Division as part of the Broad Front advance.
The Vosges
Those battles is also the climax of the Niseiâs battle against suspicion, intolerance, and a hatred that was conceived in some dark corner of the American mind and born in the flames that swept Pearl Harbor.
