At the awards banquet on Sunday morning, a variety of notable commanders were highlighted to receive a number of items. The French and Russian C-in-Cs gave summaries. Each table had a most valuable player, and players offered up amusing anecdotes of the game. A photo of one of the lunches. Same spot for Awards banquet. The happiest guy in the room was Ahmet. Not only was he devastatingly effective as a commander, he was voted MVP of his table, and won a copy of Eagle Games' Napoleon in Europe. Others walked away with a copy of MagWeb.com Battlemusic CD Emperor Triumphant, gift certificates from other dealers, and commemorative coins. Speaking of food, the hotel fare was OK, but obviously not spectacular. We're all grumblers, but without going into details, the hotel changed the rules and rates in mid-stream, causing a number of problems, but the conference was stuck and had to slog through minutae that doesn't concern the players. The dinner time pizza and sandwiches--brought in, I might add--were the high points. The buffet was OK. The awards brunch breakfast was better than the lunches. The other breakfasts were OK.
